WATERTOWN, NY ... Genesee's Softball team traveled to Jefferson Community College this past Wednesday to take on the Cannoneers for a double header. The first game would go to Genesee as they score 7 runs in the third inning. The second game would ultimately go to the Cannoneers.
GAME 1 -Genesee defeated Jefferson CC 10-3 in the first game of the day, powered by a seven-run third inning. The big rally included a two-run double by Kaylynn O'Connell, a two-run single from Kiara Van Der Jagt, and RBI hits from Caitlin Ryan and Samantha Hibbs.
Van Der Jagt led the team with three RBIs, while O'Connell recorded a team-high three hits. Shelby Scharfen, Crowley, and Fronterhouse also contributed multiple hits to Genesee's 13-hit total. The Cougars showed up at the plate, drawing four walks during the contest.
Fronterhouse pitched a complete game to earn the win, allowing only one earned run on six hits over seven innings. She struck out five batters to secure the victory for the Cougars.
GAME 2 - The ladies fell 6-3 to Jefferson CC on Wednesday, despite out-hitting their opponents six to four. The Cougars took an early lead in the first inning after O'Connell hit an RBI double, followed by run-scoring production from Scharfen.
The game shifted in the fifth inning when Jefferson CC scored five runs on only one hit, capitalizing on walks and defensive openings. O'Connell led Genesee with two hits, while Scharfen finished with two RBIs. Defensively, the Cougars were sharp, turning two double plays.
Scharfen pitched six and two-thirds innings, allowing zero earned runs on four hits. However, command proved difficult as the pitching staff issued nine walks, which Jefferson CC utilized to secure the comeback win.
The Cougars will travel to SUNY Adirondack for a double-header against the Timberwolves on Thursday, April 9th.
