Genesee's Softball team took on Fayetteville Tech in their annual spring training trip. The Cougars would ultimately take home their first win of the season in game 2 of the series.
Game 1:
Despite the loss, Genesee Community College put on an offensive clinic, racking up 15 hits and showcasing elite speed with 14 stolen bases. The bats stayed hot throughout the game, led by Leisge, who finished with a stellar 4-for-5 performance. Key RBI contributions came from O'Connell, Scharfen, and Leisge, while Wells and Van Der Jagt both recorded multi-hit games. The team also displayed great discipline at the plate, drawing six walks, two of which belonged to Wells.
The Cougars' aggressive identity was on full display on the basepaths. Wells, Van Der Jagt, Fronterhouse, and Milles each swiped multiple bags, contributing to the team's impressive total of 14 steals. This constant pressure allowed Genesee to jump out to early leads in the first, second, and third innings, keeping the pressure on the opposition throughout the contest.
On the mound, Scharfen earned the start and recorded one strikeout over two and one-third innings. Wells provided a strong performance in relief, covering four innings and surrendering only one earned run. Wells' command was a highlight of the defensive effort, as the pitcher struck out one and issued zero walks during the relief appearance.
Game 2:
Genesee Community College delivered a commanding performance on Tuesday, powered by a massive 20-hit explosion to defeat Fayetteville Tech 18-5. Leisge was the standout star at the plate, leading the team with four hits and four RBIs. Her productive day included a single in the second, a two-run triple in the third, and another RBI single during a late-inning surge in the sixth.
The Cougars' offense remained relentless from the start, building early leads in the first three innings. Contributions were widespread, with O'Connell, Scharfen, Van Der Jagt, Ryan, DeLuke, and Milles all recording multi-hit games. Ryan added an exclamation point to the performance with a solo home run to center field in the fifth, while the team's discipline at the plate earned them six walks and constant scoring opportunities.
On the rubber, Fronterhouse turned in a complete-game performance to secure the win. Over six innings of work, the starter struck out eight batters and allowed only four earned runs.
Softball will travel to USC SUMTER for their next game on Wednesday 3/18/26 to thake on the Fire Ants.
