Men’s Basketball Defeats Northampton in Opening Round of NJCAA Tournament
HERKIMER, NY… The #13 nationally ranked Genesee Community College men's basketball team won their first-round matchup against the Northampton Community College Spartans 68-62 to advance to the quarterfinals of the 2026 NJCAA Division III men's basketball championships Wednesday afternoon.
It was a tale of two halves for the blue and gold as the Cougars were down as many as ten points in the contest. Genesee entered the locker room down by five at halftime, but key three-point baskets and key rebounds on both sides of the ball sparked the comeback.
Said Adam had a team-high 16 points and collected 18 rebounds to lead the way. Out of Adam's 18 rebounds, 13 of them came on the defensive glass. Izick Reaves scored 10 points and had four assists, with nine points coming from behind the arch. Scotty Lee also scored 10 points, while Keysaun Murray scored 13 for Genesee. Damani Hinks scored nine points, while Izayah Reaves and Jerry Ortiz scoring four points each.
Genesee will take on the top seed in the tournament, Northern Essex, on Thursday afternoon at 2pm in Herkimer, NY.
