Volleyball Aims at 19th Consecutive Title on Tuesday

The Cougars will look to make it 19-consecutive Division II Region III titles on Tuesday night when they square off with Mercyhurst North East for the championship.

Genesee (20-17) has won the title every season since 1996. The Cougars are currently on a three-match winning streak.

Mercyhurst (7-11) is 6-4 in its last 10 matches and the Saints will travel to Genesee CC for the second time this year.

Last time out:

GCC won in straight sets over Jamestown Community College on Oct. 16 (25-16, 25-18, 25-19). Ai Miyazaki had 16 digs, 10 kills and two aces, Stephanie Toledo added 10 kills and Haley Case had three aces.

MNE lost in four sets on the road at Cuyahoga Community College (12-25, 25-22, 13-25, 14-25). MAckenzie Turner tallied 24 assists, Cierra Jackson added 15 kills and five digs and Tamie Puckett had seven digs and two aces.

What to watch for:

Genesee is looking to extend its streak of Region III Division II titles to 19 straight.

GCC split the season series with MNE, falling for just the second time since 2005 to the Saints in the last meeting on Oct. 2.
