After finishing the regular season 13-3, the Genesee Community College women's soccer team has earned the second seed in this year's Region III Division III Women's Soccer Championships and the right to host a semifinals match next week.
The Cougars receive an opening-round bye and will host the winner of #10-seed Jamestown Community College and #7 Mohawk Valley Community College on Tuesday, Oct. 28 at 4:30 p.m. JCC and MVCC will compete on Saturday for the right to face GCC in the semifinals.
Genesee is currently ranked No. 3 in the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) National Poll, its highest ranking since 2010 (ranked No. 2). The Cougars lost at MVCC 2-1 in overtime on Sep. 6 and defeated Jamestown Community College 5-0 at JCC on Oct. 8.
GCC has tallied 69 goals as a team this fall, the fifth highest total in the country. Shawna Adams (Bergen, NY) leads the Cougars with 17 goals and a total of 37 points. Goalkeeper Maddie Potter (Oakfield, NY) has allowed an average of just 0.74 goals per game and has recorded nine shutout wins this season.
Genesee will be playing for its first regional championship since 2010.
