The Genesee Community College women's soccer team is back in the top-ten of the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Division III National Poll, according to the latest poll released by the association on Oct. 8.
The Cougars are currently 8-3 overall this season (7-2 in Division III play) and winners of seven out of their last eight contests.
Genesee was previously ranked No. 10 in the pre-season National Poll on Aug. 13, but fell out of the rankings after beginning the season 1-2.
GCC averages 5.0 goals per game, which is the second-best mark in the country. Goalkeeper Maddie Potter recently set the record for most career shutout victories at Genesee. In a 9-0 win at Jamestown Community College-Olean on Oct. 4, Potter recorded her 12th career shutout win, breaking the previous record of 11 set by Hillary Battles (1996-97). Genesee has won seven times in shutout fashion so far this season.
The Cougars have four remaining regular season contests this fall, the last three of which will be at home. GCC is at Jamestown Community College on Oct. 8 and will play Onondaga Community College (Oct. 11), Finger Lakes Community College (Oct. 15) and No. 3 Herkimer County Community College (Oct. 18) before heading into postseason play.
