Cougars Face No. 2 Lazers on Saturday

The Genesee Community College women's lacrosse team will play the second-ranked team in all of the NJCAA on Saturday when the Cougars travel to No. 2 Onondaga Community College for a 1 p.m. start.

Genesee (3-2) snapped a two-game losing skid on Saturday and improved its school-record win total for a single-season to three games.

Coming off of an NJCAA National Final Four appearance in 2013, OCC (9-1) won its first nine games of the 2014 campaign.

Last time out:

Genesee dropped visiting Mohawk Valley Community College 13-6 on Apr. 12. Kaleigh Murray scored five goals for GCC, which outscored MVCC 5-0 in the second half. Christina Woodworth had three assist and Lara Oakes made 15 saves in net.

Onondaga fell to No. 1 Monroe Community College 11-9 on Apr. 12. Tied 7-7 at the half, OCC was outscored 4-2 in the second, coming up just short. Jenna Battaglini scored six times for the Lazers and goalkeeper Abbie Burd made 10 saves.

What to watch for:

Genesee is looking for its first win against Onondaga. The Cougars are 0-3 all-time against the Lazers.

Cougars goalkeeper Lara Oakes is second in the NJCAA in save percentage (63.3).

OCC midfielder Jenna Battaglini is tied for first in the NJCAA in goals scored this year with 38.
