The Genesee Community College women's basketball team outscored visiting Mercyhurst North East 23-12 in the fourth quarter on Tuesday night to win its second Western New York Athletic Conference game in a row.
The Cougars, coming off of a win against conference rival Erie CC last week, trailed by nine with less than nine-minutes to play on Tuesday, but used a 14-0 run in a span of six minutes and a 23-6 run to end the game to capture their sixth win of the season, 64-57.
Despite shooting just 23-percent from three-point range, GCC forced 25 Mercyhurst turnovers and held the Saints to 23 second half points.
Karley Fanning scored a game high 25 points and also grabbed seven rebounds. Thais Matté did all of her damage from three-point range and the free-throw line and ended the night with 11 points and a game high eight assists. Brionna Blocker ended the first quarter with six-straight points for Genesee and finished with 10 points and four steals and Nakakoji Kiyomi and Abagail Kamysz each scored five points apiece.
Genesee (6-14, 2-2) will play its third of five consecutive home games on Thursday night against Niagara County CC. Tip-off is scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
