Cougars Earn First Conference Win Over Erie

The Genesee Community College women's basketball team earned its first Western New York Athletic Conference (WNYAC) win of the season on Thursday night, knocking off visiting Erie Community College, 71-58.

Brionna Blocker and Karly Fanning combined to score 23 first half points and helped the Cougars to a six-point halftime lead.

GCC stretched its lead to 11 after the third quarter and forced 11 Erie turnovers in the second half to pick up its fifth win of the season.

Fanning finished with a game high 22 points and collected seven rebounds. Blocker added 18 points, six boards and four assists, Thais Matté and Abagail Kamysz each scored 11 points apiece and Kamysz also grabbed eight rebounds.

Genesee (5-14, 1-2) will return to action at home on Tuesday night against Mercyhurst North East, a makeup date for a contest originally scheduled for Jan. 12.
