The Genesee Community College women's basketball team is the No. 5 seed in this year's Region III Division II playoffs and the Cougars will travel to No. 4 Niagara County Community College on Wednesday evening for a 5:30 p.m. start in the quarterfinals.
Genesee (13-12) played to a 2-8 mark against Region III Division II teams this season and went winless in two tries against Niagara. The Cougars are in search of their first postseason win since the 2010-2011 season.
Niagara (21-9) began the season 13-0 but the Thunderwolves have gone 3-7 down the stretch to end the regular season. NCCC is 5-4 at home this season and has won the last six meetings against GCC dating back to 2011-2012.
The winner of Wednesday night's contest will advance to the Final Four which will be held at Monroe Community College on Feb. 28 and Mar. 1. MCC is the No. 1 seed and will play the winner of GCC and NCCC. No. 3 Mercyhurst North East will host No. 6 Erie Community College on Wednesday night in the second quarterfinals matchup with the winner advancing to play No. 2 Jamestown Community College on Saturday.
