The Genesee Community College women's basketball team will play its first game of 2015 and the second semester when the Cougars travel to Cayuga Community College on Tuesday for a 5:30 p.m. start against the Spartans.
Genesee (7-3) is coming off of its best first semester start since the 2009-2010. After starting the season 1-3, the Cougars have won its last six contests.
Cayuga (5-6) has lost its last two games and the Spartans are 4-3 at home so far this season.
Last time out:
Genesee defeated the Community College of Rhode Island in final game of the Cougar Holiday Classic on Dec. 14, 67-59. The Cougars used a 9-0 run midway through the second half to put the Knights away. Hillary Rivera led the way with a team-high 17 points and Latricia Stephens had a double-double with 11 rebounds and 10 points.
Cayuga was held to 11 baskets and committed 27 turnovers in a 62-30 loss to Mohawk Valley Community College on Dec. 13. Allison Chase was the only Spartan to reach double figures in scoring. She finished with 13 points. Shaqueria Everson grabbed nine rebounds and Lakin Mueller had a team-high three assists.
What to watch for:
GCC went undefeated in the month of December (4-0), its first undefeated month since Dec. 2008 (4-0).
The current six-game winning streak is the longest such stretch in the program since the 2007-08 season (began the season 8-0).
Genesee is averaging 70.7 points per game this season and Cayuga is averaging 59.7.
