The Genesee Community College men's and women's swimming and diving teams both finished in fourth place in the Region III/Northeast District championships this past weekend at Monroe Community College and combined for four individual wins. The women combined for a final score of 258 in the three-day event and the men swam to a total of 257.
Kyle Podlaski earned two individual wins for GCC, topping the men's 400 IM by nearly 10-seconds (4:41.50) and coming from behind to win the 200 backstroke (2:07.81). Lyle Wagner also swam to a first place finish, winning the 200 butterfly (2:08.21). Each male swimmer finished in the top five of at least one event over the weekend for Genesee.
The women's squad placed in the top three of all but two events, including an individual win by Islelie Silvanie in the 100 backstroke (1:07.65). Silvanie, MiKenna Carpenter, Miranda Dunton and Heather Farrell combined to set the school record in the 200 freestyle relay with a second place finish and a finals time of 1:50.92. Carpenter finished a close runner-up in the 50 freestyle (26.93), 100 freestyle (59.71) and the 100 breaststroke (1:20.89) and Dunton was second in the 200 freestyle (2:11.11) and the 1650 freestyle (20:35.69).

The Cougars will finish the season in the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) National Championships on March 2-5 in Fort Pierce, FL.
