The National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) recently announced its selections for 2015 Women's Softball All-Americans and Genesee Community College sophomore Karissa Schuster (Perry, NY) was named to the First Team.
Schuster scored a team-high 36 runs and hit .398, batting primarily lead-off for the Cougars this year. She collected 41 hits, five of which went for extra-bases and stole all four bases she attempted. Schuster was also named to the Region III All-Region First Team, Western New York Athletic Conference (WNYAC) All-Conference Second Team and the Region III All-Tournament team for GCC this spring.
"This is a well-deserved accolade for Karissa," said former GCC head coach Cassie Moore. "As our lead-off hitter for two years, she consistently got the job done; doing whatever it takes to get on base. Her positive attitude and relentless work ethic are what makes her such a great team player, and I could not be more proud of her."
She becomes the first softball player in GCC history to garner All-American honors and was selected as a utility player.
Genesee finished the season 25-11 and captured the WNYAC title for the first time in school history. The Cougars advanced to the Region III Group B Finals and were one win away from the NJCAA National Tournament.
