Shannon Baker tossed two complete-games on Tuesday afternoon and the GCC softball team won both games of a doubleheader against Monroe Community College.
With the wins, Genesee captured its first Western New York Athletic Conference (WNYAC) title in school history, finishing 5-0 in conference this year.
Baker allowed two runs (one earned) in game one in a 5-2 win. She allowed five hits and struck out six, and went 2-3 at the plate with a run scored and a run batted in.
GCC broke a 1-1 tie in the third with a three-run inning. Kelsey Schmitt delivered a two-run single and also scored a run.
Genesee and Monroe traded runs in the first inning of game two before the Cougars took the lead for good in the top of the second with a pair of runs.
Schmitt came through again with a two-run double in the third inning to put GCC in front 6-1.
The Tribunes cut the deficit to two with a four-run third, but Baker shut down MCC over the final four innings to earn her second win of the day and Genesee took game two, 6-5.
Baker allowed five runs (four earned) on four hits and struck out five.
Genesee (19-9) will return to action on the road on Saturday in a doubleheader against Tompkins-Cortland Community College beginning at 1 p.m.
