The Genesee Community College softball team won a rain-shortened game against Mercyhurst North East on Monday afternoon, 4-2 in five innings.
The Saints took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first, but GCC answered in the home half of the inning with a run of its own. Karissa Schuster singled and after a sacrifice bunt by Bailee Welker and a wild pitch, scored on a wild pitch to tie the game.
Shannon Baker held Mercyhurst N.E. to two runs (both unearned) on five hits, and helped her own cause with a two-run homerun in the bottom of the third to put Genesee in front 4-1.
The Saints crossed a run in the fourth to make it 4-2, but the rains came in the fifth to put an early end to the contest.
Baker also fanned five and earned the win on the mound. She was 2-2 at the plate with a run scored and two RBI's, Schuster finished 2-3 with a run scored and Georgie Miller added a pair of hits and scored a run.
Genesee (12-7) will host Niagara County Community College on Tuesday in a doubleheader beginning at 3 p.m.
