UPDATE: Softball Doubleheader vs. Cayuga Ruled Incomplete

UPDATE:

Weather/darkness caused an early end to Monday afternoon's softball doubleheader between Genesee and Cayuga with two outs in the bottom of the fifth inning and GCC in the lead, 24-3. What was initially considered a completed game has now been ruled a halted game and will be picked up on Apr. 26 when Genesee travels to Cayuga for a scheduled doubleheader.

Genesee won game one against the Spartans via the mercy rule, 8-0 in five innings.

Karissa Schuster led off the bottom of the second in the opener with a walk and eventually came around to score on an RBI single from Elizabeth Myers for the game's first run.

Genesee led 2-0 after four and scored six runs in the fifth to put the game away. Kelsey Schmitt highlighted the inning with a two-run triple and Andrea Torres, Chelsey Ruzewski, Dani Wilshire and Shannon Baker each delivered a hit and scored a run in the inning.

Baker tossed all five innings on the mound and allowed four hits and struck out 12.

GCC jumped out early in game two, scoring eight times in the first. The Cougars represent the away team in the second contest and crossed the plate 16 more times. GCC leads 24-3 with two outs in the bottom of the fifth.

Bailee Welker is 4-6, has scored five runs and has driven in two, Wilshire is 3-5 with five RBI's and three runs scored, Schmitt added two hits, scored twice and has driven in two and Georgie Miller is 2-2 and has scored twice.

Kristin Hohn is in line for the win on the mound, lasting four innings and giving up three runs on nine hits while striking out three. 

Genesee will continue the game on Apr. 26 when the Cougars travel to Cayuga for a scheduled doubleheader.
