Softball Holds off Finger Lakes

Shannon Baker took a no-hitter into the seventh inning on Friday and helped the GCC softball team win its home opener against Finger Lakes Community College, 3-2.

Baker ritired the first 18 batters she faced before giving up the first FLCC hit in the top of the seventh.

Genesee scored all three of its runs in the third, with Dani Wilshire driving in a pair and Chelsey Ruzewski plating the other.

Wilshire went 2-2 in the game with a double and a run scored, Georgie Miller went 2-3 and scored a run and Kelsey Schmitt and Elizabeth Myers each collected a hit apiece.

Baker fanned 11 in the complete-game effort and after allowing two hits and two runs in the seventh, shut the door to give Genesee the win and improve the Cougars' overall record to 4-5 this spring.

GCC will return to action at home on Tuesday in a home doubleheader against FLCC beginning at 3 p.m.
