Riding a three-game winning streak, the Genesee Community College softball team will continue a stretch of seven straight road matchups, traveling to Jefferson Community College for a doubleheader on Thursday.
The Cougars kicked off the road schedule with a doubleheader sweep of Jamestown Community College-Olean on Sunday. Genesee (8-13) has won four of its last six games.
Jefferson (6-5) has had three of its last four doubleheaders postponed or cancelled, completing only one of two scheduled games against Herkimer County Community College on Apr. 14.
Last time out:
Genesee took both games against JCC-Olean on Sunday. Ashley Covel threw a two-hitter en-route to a 10-0 GCC mercy-rule victory in game one. The Cougars fell behind 7-0 early in game two, but mounted a comeback and defeated the Jaguars 15-7 in game two. Andrea Pursel earned the win on the mound.
Covel hit a home run in both games and Rachel Van Duser also connected for a home run in game two. Taylor Gayton went a combined 5-9, scoring five runs and driving in five. Chelsey Ruzewski finished the doubleheader 5-8, scoring five runs and stealing two bases.
Jefferson fell to Herkimer CCC 12-5 in the first of two scheduled games on Apr. 14. Game two of the doubleheader was cancelled. The Cannoneers have lost their last five games.
What to watch for:
Ashley Covel is 3-1 with a 1.97 earned run average in her last four starts.
Chelsey Ruzewski has hit safely in eight straight games.
Genesee is 3-6 on the road this season.
