The Genesee Community College softball team combined to score 25 runs in a two-game sweep of Jamestown Community College-Olean on Sunday afternoon, taking two wins on the road and upping its season win total to eight games.
Ashley Covel threw a two-hit shutout in game one and the Cougars routed the Jaguars via the mercy rule.
Genesee scored two runs in all five innings at bat and did not commit an error defensively, defeating Jamestown 10-0.
In game two, the Cougars bounced back from an early deficit after JCC-Olean scored seven runs in the home half of the first to take a 7-0 lead.
Rachel Van Duser hit a fourth inning home run to spark a rally and a seven-run inning for GCC to get the Cougars back in the game.
Genesee scored the final eight runs of the game, including another home run from Covel, and completed the sweep with a 15-7 win.
Covel went 2-3 in game two, Chelsey Ruzewski added four hits in five at bats and scored four runs, Van Duser also added a double and a triple, collecting three extra-base hits, Karissa Schuster went 2-4 with two runs scored and Gayton scored three runs, going 2-5.
Andrea Pursel picked up the win on the mound, allowing seven runs on five hits while striking out three.
Genesee (8-13) will return to action on Thursday on the road at Jefferson Community College.
