NJCAA Selects Stone, Godoi and King as Men's Soccer All-American

Three sophomore members of the GCC men's soccer team were recently recognized by the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA), which named them All-Americans for the 2016 season.

Forward William Stone (Little Hampton, UK) and midfielder Rafael Godoi (Osasco, Brazil) were both named first team All-Americans for the second consecutive season and defender Sam King (Mansfield, England) was named to the second team, his first time receiving the honor.

Stone led the country and Genesee in total points with 66 and was third in the country in goals (23) and second in assists (20). He played in and started 18 games this fall for GCC and was also named to the All-Region III and All-Western New York Athletic Conference (WNYAC) First Teams. His two-year totals of 134 points and 48 goals are both school records.

Godoi was tops in the nation in assists with 24, second in total points with 62, and tied for 11th in goals with 19. He set the school record for most single season and career assists, totaling 39 during his two seasons at Genesee. He was also named to the All-Region and All-Conference First Teams after playing in and starting 19 games this season.

King anchored the Genesee defense, which boasted the second-lowest goals against average in the nation, allowing just 0.78 goals per contest. He contributed seven points from the back line, scoring three goals and assisting on one. He was selected to the All-Region and All-Conference First Team this fall and played in 17 games for the Cougars.

Genesee finished the season with a 16-2-2 overall record and won its third regional title in school history, advancing to the NJCAA national tournament for the third time. The Cougars lost in the national final four to eventual national champion Richland College (TX), 3-0.
