No. 1 Cougars Earn Top Seed in Regional Tournament

The No. 1 nationally-ranked GCC men's soccer team has been tabbed the overall No. 1 seed for the 2015 Region III Division III Men's Soccer Championships after a perfect 17-0 regular season. The announcement was made by the regional committee on Wednesday.

Genesee will represent the regional tournament's top-seed for the second time in school history and first time since 2011. The Cougars earn a first round bye and will host a semifinals matchup on Oct. 27 against the winner of No. 9 Jefferson CC and No. 8 Mohawk Valley CC, a matchup that will take place on Oct. 24 at MVCC.

Genesee won its fifth consecutive Western New York Athletic Conference (WNYAC) title this fall, playing to a 3-0 record in conference play. The Cougars are a win away from breaking the school record for most victories in a season and are seeking the second Region III championship in school history (2011). GCC has advanced to the finals in each of the past four seasons.

The Cougars boast the top offense in the country, totaling 123 goals so far this year, an average of over seven goals per game. A stout defense has limited opponents to just 13 goals, an average of 0.81 goals per game, and Genesee has won eight games in shutout fashion.

Game time for Oct. 27's semifinals is to be announced.
