No. 4 Cougars Roll to Win Over Visiting Cannoneers

The No. 4 GCC men's lacrosse team scored the first 21 goals on Wednesday afternoon against visiting Jefferson CC, and cruised to a 34-3 win to improve to 7-2 on the season.

Jacob Bomberry, Colin Brillian and Pat Van Bortle combined to score eight of GCC's 10 goals in the first quarter and 15 of 34 in the game. Van Bortle tallied ten points in the game with five goals and five assists, Bomberry finished with nine, scoring six goals and assisting on three and Brillian totaled eight points with four goals and four assists.

Jefferson's lone first half goal came at the 9:35 mark of the second quarter before the Cougars closed the half with three-consecutive goals to lead 24-1 at the break.

Davis Prince and Drew Horton each scored a pair of goals in the second half and freshman Frank Wolfe scored his first career goal at GCC late in the fourth quarter. Prince finished the game with five goals and three assists and Horton finished with three goals.

Darin Eakins and Parker Phillips each saw a half of work in net and combined to make seven saves.

Mike Caternolo, who score twice in the contest, was 27 of 36 on face-offs and collected 18 ground balls. Evan Jacob also had two goals and John Jimerson scored once and had one assist.

Alex Henry and James Deakin each had a team-high four takeaways.

Genesee (7-2) will end its four-game homestand on Saturday against No. 1 Nassau CC. Face-off is scheduled for noon.
