The No. 4 GCC men's lacrosse team broke or tied numerous school records on Friday afternoon in a 36-1 rout over visiting Hudson Valley CC. The Cougars bounced back after a tough road loss at No. 2 Onondaga CC last weekend to win their fifth game of the year.
The 36 goals broke a nearly year-old record that was set on Apr. 2, 2015 when the Cougars tallied 32 goals in a win over Mohawk Valley CC.
Colin Brillian tied the single-game mark for most goals in a game, netting 10 on the afternoon including three in a row in the third quarter.
Genesee never trailed in the contest and scored 21 straight goals before HVCC's lone tally came early in the third period.
Jacob Bomberry accounted for four of GCC's first six goals to start the game and finished the afternoon with seven. He also had seven assists, tying the school record for most points in a game with 14.
Mike Caternolo broke his own record for most single-game ground balls, which he set earlier this season against Monroe CC, collecting 24 and topping his previous high of 18. He also controlled 31 of 41 face-offs.
15 GCC players recorded at least a point on Saturday including Pat Van Bortle who finished with seven goals and five assists for 12 total points. Drew Horton added three goals and an assist, Davis Prince netted two goals and assisted on two, Alex Henry had two assists and a goal and Jonah Mohawk, Dan Telban and Caternolo added a goal and an assist apiece.
Genesee (5-2, 1-0) will host ASA College on Sunday at 12 p.m.
