No. 4 Cougars Come up Short at No. 2 Onondaga

SYRACUSE: The No. 4 nationally ranked GCC men's lacrosse team fell short on the road on Saturday against No. 2 Onondaga CC, falling to the Lazers 15-10.

OCC scored the first two goals of the game to take an early lead, but Pat Van Bortle sparked a 4-0 run by Genesee scoring his first of three goals on the afternoon and GCC ended the first quarter with a 4-2 lead. Brody Jorgenson and Sherman Williams also tallied a goal apiece in the opening period for the Cougars.

The Lazers opened the second with back-to-back goals to tie the game at four, and after a Jacob Bomberry goal put GCC back in front by one, OCC scored three straight to regain the lead for good. The home team led 9-7 at the half.

Onondaga stretched its lead to 12-7 with the first three goals of the second half and GCC never got closer than four the rest of the way, falling for the second time this season.

Williams ended with a goal and two assists and Nick Lavoy and Jonah Mohawk each added a goal apiece.

Mike Caternolo was 14 of 28 on face-offs and picked up six ground balls. Alex Henry also collected six ground balls and Reed Hnidy and James Deakin finished with five ground balls apiece. Darin Eakins made 16 saves in net.
