Men's Lacrosse Pair Sign LOI's With Four-Year Schools

Two members of the Genesee Community College men's lacrosse program recently signed a National Letter of Intent with four-year NCAA schools to continue their athletic and academic careers after GCC. Sophomore midfielder Mike Caternolo (Churchville-Chili) has committed to Belmont Abbey College (NC) and sophomore defender Reed Hnidy (Saskatoon, Saskachewan) has signed with Lake Erie College (OH).

Caternolo played in all 16 games as a freshman in 2015 for the Cougars. He collected 38 ground balls and assisted on one goal. Caternolo also excelled at face-offs, winning 78 of 128 (61%). He will join Belmont Abbey, which competes at the NCAA Division II level in the Conference Carolinas. The Crusaders finished the 2015 season with an 11-5 overall record.

Hnidy, an NJCAA All-American, all-region and all-conference selection as a freshman in 2015, appeared in all 16 games last season, making 14 starts. He was second on the team in ground balls with 62 and tallied three points with two goals and one assist. Hnidy joins Lake Erie, which competes at the NCAA Division II level in the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC). The Storm advanced to the National Final Four in 2015.

Genesee will open its 2016 schedule on the road at Tompkins Cortland Community College on Mar. 5 and the Cougars will host six regular season home games this spring.
