In the spirit of the holiday season, the Genesee Community College men's lacrosse team recently met for the final time this semester and gathered gifts and toys that were collected by the team for the Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) Children Holiday Gift Program. Each player and coach donated a gift to the program and the team collected over 30 items.
"As a team, we wanted to make sure that a number of local children in need would be able to receive some gifts and enjoy the holidays," said GCC head coach Dave Hoover.
The GCC Education Club spearheaded the initiative, working with CASA to choose 45 local children in need. The children range in age from newborn through adolescence and have been removed from their homes due to abuse and or neglect.
"This is such a great opportunity for the players and coaches to help our local community. We're glad we could do it!" Hoover said.
With the help of the Cougars and the the College community, all 45 children were sponsored this year.
The GCC men's lacrosse team will officially open its 2016 spring season on the road at Tompkins-Cortland CC on Mar. 5.
