Genesee on to Regional Finals After Win Over Dean

The No. 4 nationally-ranked GCC men's lacrosse team will play for the Region III title on Sunday after defeating Dean College in the semifinals on Saturday, 18-6.

Nick Lavoy scored two first quarter goals for the No. 2 seed Genesee, which outscored No. 6 seed Dean 7-1 in the first period.

The Cougars extended its lead to 10-3 at the half and outscored the Bulldogs 8-3 the rest of the way to earn the win.

Jacob Bomberry finished with three goals and two assits and Jimmy Smith, Brody Jorgenson, Mitchell Kinney, Cyrus Spruce and Lavoy each scored two goals apiece. 

Alex Henry had five ground balls and four takeaways, Joshua Wester had four ground balls and Reed Hnidy caused two turnovers.

Colton Reformat collected six ground balls and went 6-10 on face-offs, Mike Caternolo went 6 for 9 and Ray Tague was 4 for 6.

Corey Luty earned the win in net and made nine saves in the game.

Genesee (11-3) will now play No. 1 overall seed and nationally-ranked Onondaga CC on Sunday at 1 p.m. for the Region III championship. Both teams earned automatic bids into the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) National Tournament with wins on Saturday.
