Cougars Clash with Lazers in Region III Semis

The road to the Region III Finals will run through No. 1 Onondaga Community College for the GCC men's lacrosse team as the No. 4 Cougars will face off with OCC in the semi-finals on Saturday at Tompkins-Cortland Community College.

Genesee (6-8) has won four straight games and has advanced to the regional semifinals for the fourth consecutive season.

Onondaga (13-0) remains unbeaten this year and the Lazers are in search of their 10th consecutive Region III Title.

Last time out:

Genesee defeated Jefferson Community College 19-11 in the Region III Quarterfinals on Wednesday.

The Cougars trailed early in the second quarter but outscored the Cannoneers 11-4 in the second half to pull away for the victory.

Dana Ray scored six times for GCC and Joshua Wester had six assists and four goals. Pete DiLaura and Doug Ellsworth both collected six ground balls apiece and Craig Seneca made 13 stops in net.

Onondaga rolled through its quarterfinal opponent, defeating Dean College 29-1 on Wednesday.

Vaughn Harris led the Lazers with five goals and Warren Hill and Jason Ketchoylan combined to stop 13 of 14 shots on goal.

What to watch for:

Genesee is in search of its fourth consecutive trip to the NJCAA National Tournament.

Onondaga has won five straight NJCAA National Championships.

OCC leads the season series 1-0, defeating GCC 20-4 on Mar. 29.
