The No. 4 Genesee Community College men's lacrosse team will have home field advantage on Wednesday afternoon when the Cougars host Jefferson Community College in the quarterfinals of the Region III tournament.
Genesee (5-8) ended the season on a three-game winning streak and the Cougars will host a regional quarterfinal game for the fourth consecutive season.
Jefferson (5-4) won four of its final five games after starting the season 1-3. The Cannoneers will visit GCC for the second time this season.
Last time out:
Genesee cruised in its regular season finale at Finger Lakes Community College on Saturday, defeating the Lakers 25-3. Jimmy Smith scored five goals in the game and the Cougars outscored FLCC 14-1 in the first half and 11-2 in the second. Craig Seneca and Mark Pucek combined to make seven saves in net.
Jefferson defeated Mohawk Valley Community College 27-7 to end its regular season on Saturday. Dallas Thomas totaled 15 points (7 goals and 8 assist) and the Cannoneers held MVCC scoreless in the second half. With the win, JCC concluded the season a perfect 3-0 at home.
What to watch for:
Jefferson will play at GCC for the second time this season. The Cougars defeated JCC in the season opener on Mar. 6, 16-3.
In the first meeting, Genesee was plus-16 in ground balls and caused 14 JCC turnovers.
Genesee is 3-0 all-time in home playoff games.
