The Genesee Community College men's basketball team will play in its third consecutive Region III Division II Final Four this weekend after knocking off Niagara County Community College in a sub-regional matchup on Tuesday night, 77-65.
The No. 4 seeded Cougars led start to finish and with the win, take the season series over NCCC 2-1.
Terrence Brown led all scorers with 19 points and connected on both 3pt attempts he took in the game. The sophomore also grabbed eight rebounds.
Genesee jumped out to a 13-4 lead to start the game and led by as much as 18 in the second half when the Cougars held a 74-56 lead with just over a minute to play.
Trailing 66-50 with 4:30 left in the game, No. 5 seeded Niagara County used a quick 6-1 run to get to within 11 with just under three minutes to play, but that was as close as the Thunderwolves got the rest of the way.
Devante Carolina scored 14 points and grabbed five rebounds for GCC, Alex Morris added 13 points and seven boards, Amancho Adopo collected 10 rebounds and scored eight points and Anthony Williams ended the night with nine points and a game high seven assists.
The win, head coach Terry George's 99th career win at Genesee, allows the Cougars to move on to face No. 1 seed Monroe CC in the regional semifinals on Saturday at noon at MCC. The winner will advance to Sunday's regional championship to play the winner of the second semifinals matchup, No. 2 Jamestown CC and No. 3 Erie CC.
