The Basketball Coaches Association of New York (BCANY) recently announced its list of accolades for the 2014-2015 Junior College Men's Basketball season and members of the Genesee Community College men's basketball program were honored. Genesee head coach Terry George was named the BCANY New York State Coach of the Year, sophomore guard Ervin Mitchell was named to the BCANY All-New York State First Team and sophomore guard Naquil Jones was named to the BCANY All-New York State Second Team.
George led the Cougars to a 23-10 season which included a Region III Division II title, a District II title and the first trip to the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) National Tournament in 12 years. He was also named the District II Coach of the Year. George just concluded his fourth season as head coach and has amassed 79 wins in his time at GCC.
Mitchell, also named an NJCAA All-American (Second Team) and All-Region III (First Team), set the school record for most career points in the program's history (1476) this season and averaged the ninth-highest per game scoring average in the country with 23.5 points per game. He recorded double-digit point totals in all but one of the 32 games he played in this season.
Jones, also named to the All-Region III First Team this year, ends his career at Genesee fourth on the all-time scoring list with 1241 career points. He averaged 19.7 points per game this season and started in 55 games during his two seasons at GCC.
