DANVILLE, IL: The 2014-15 season came to an end for the Genesee Community College men's basketball team on Thursday afternoon when the Cougars lost in the consolation round of the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) National Tournament to Olive-Harvey College (IL), 106-96.
Olive-Harvey connected on seven 3-pt baskets in the first half and led by as much as 25.
Ervin Mitchell scored 27 of his game high 37 points in the second half but the Cougars could not get closer than seven.
Genesee used an 11-0 run late in the half to cut the Olive-Harvey lead down to 86-78, but the Panthers responded with a 13-4 run of their own to take back control.
GCC cut it to seven at 102-95 with less than a minute to play but time ran out, eliminating Genesee from the national tournament.
Mitchell also had four rebounds and two assists, Naquil Jones scored 21 points and grabbed eight boards, Gabriel Burroughs added 16 points and six rebounds, Joshua Doughty had 12 rebounds, eight assists and seven points and Jason Perry Murray finished with 11 boards and seven points.
The Cougars fall to 1-6 all-time in national tournament competition and finish the season with a 23-10 overall record.
