District Title and Tournament Bid Up For Grabs on Saturday

The District II Championship and a trip to the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) National Tournament will be up for grabs on Saturday afternoon when the Genesee Community College men's basketball team hosts No. 16 Dean College (MA) for an afternoon tip-off in the Anthony T. Zambito Gymnasium.

Genesee (22-8) will represent Region III after the Cougars won their first regional title in 12 years last weekend.

Dean (22-2) represents Region 22 after winning its second straight regional title and the Bulldogs are currently riding a school record 16-game winning streak.

Last time out:

Jason Perry Murray's tip in with 3.6-seconds left was the game-winning basket and with three blocks, the sophomore also tied the career record for most blocks in school history (106). Tournament MVP Naquil Jones led Genesee with a game-high 27 points, 12 of which came in the last eight minutes of the game. Joshua Doughty added 13 points and seven rebounds and Gabriel Burroughs, a selection to the All-Tournament Team, finished with 11 points.

Dean dropped the Community College of Rhode island 88-66 in the Region 21 final on Mar. 1. Joe Clarke led five Bulldogs in double-figures with 22 points. William March and Brandon Marshall both recorded double-doubles. March finished with 18 points and 12 rebounds and Marshall added 14 points and 13 boards. Devin Stallings finished with 15 points and Jovel Beckford added 10 points.

What to watch for:

With one block, Jason Perry Murray will become the career leader in school history.
