Cougars Host Kats on Tuesday Night

The Cougars will host Erie Community College on Tuesday night in their last regular season Western New York Athletic Conference (WNYAC) home game of the 2014-2015 campaign. GCC and ECC will meet for the second time this year and tip-off is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.

Genesee (17-7, 5-4) currently sits in fourth place in the Region III Division II standings and the Cougars are 3-3 in their last six contests (3-2 in conference).

Erie (12-6, 5-3) holds the No. 3 spot in the Region III Division II standings and would fall to fourth with a loss to GCC on Tuesday night.

Last time out:

Genesee came back to defeat Mercyhurst North East at home on Feb. 7, 95-71. The Cougars outscored the Saints 56-31 in the second half and held the visitors to just 25-percent shooting in the frame.

Ervin Mitchell scored 24 points and grabbed 14 rebounds, Devante Carolina added a season-high 21 points, Naquil Jones finished with 20 points and eight assists and Rahsaan Williams finished with 14 rebounds and eight points.

Erie lost at home on Feb. 7 to Jamestown Community College, 76-71. The Kats held a lead as large as 13 but were outscored 50-45 in the second half after being tied at halftime. Stefano Osuji led ECC with 21 points, including five 3-pt baskets; Michael Vigilance added 15 points and six rebounds and Joshua Mckenzie dished out six assists.

What to watch for:

Genesee leads the season series 1-0 after a win at ECC on Jan. 22, 84-82.

Naquil Jones led three GCC scorers in double figures in the first matchup with 27 points. Ervin Mitchell had 21 and Jason Perry Murray, who scored the game-winning basket with less than a second to play, finished with 12.

A win would bump Genesee up to the No. 3 spot in the Region III Division II standings.
