After improving its Western New York Athletic Conference (WNYAC) record to 2-2 last week, the Genesee Community College men's basketball team will begin a four-game week on Tuesday night when the Cougars host Jamestown Community College-Olean at the Anthony T. Zambito Gymnasium.
Genesee (14-4, 2-2) will play three of its four games this week against WNYAC opponents and the Cougars will look to improve to above .500 in conference play for the first time this season.
JCC-Olean (7-8, 0-4) is looking for its first win in conference this season and the Jaguars just ended a five-game losing streak.
Last time out:
Genesee outlasted Erie Community College 84-82 on Jan. 22. Jason Perry Murray converted on the game-winning basket with less than a second to play to send the Cougars to the road win. Naquil Jones tallied 27 points and in doing so became the 11th player in GCC men's basketball history to reach 1,000 career points. Ervin Mitchell finished with 21 points and nine rebounds and Rahsaan Williams grabbed 12 rebounds and added nine points.
Jamestown-Olean ended a five-game winless streak on Jan. 22 by defeating non-conference opponent St. John Fisher JV, 84-54. Deonn Moore-Colomb led three Jaguars in double-figures with 21 points. Danuel House III recorded a double-double with 18 points and 11 rebounds and Kelci Rigsby added 16 points. JCC-Olean connected on nine 3pt baskets and was plus-12 in rebounding.
What to watch for:
Tuesday night will mark the first matchup between GCC and JCC-Olean since the 2012-2013 season.
The Cougars are 17-1 against the Jaguars since the 2004-2005 season. Their only loss came in overtime.
This will be the first of two schedule meetings between Genesee and Jamestown-Olean this season. Both teams are scheduled to play on Feb. 14 at JCC-Olean.
