The No. 16 Genesee Community College men's basketball team will roll on in Western New York Athletic Conference (WNYAC) play on Thursday night when the Cougars host Niagara County Community College at 8 p.m. in the Anthony T. Zambito Gymnasium.

Genesee (12-3) returns home for the first time since Dec. 14 and the Cougars will end a six-game road stretch on Thursday night. After beginning the year 12-1, GCC has lost its last two contests.

Niagara (12-4) will play in its first conference game of the year on Thursday and the Thunderwolves are currently riding a four-game winning streak.

Last time out:

Genesee fell in overtime in its first conference game of the season on Tuesday night at Mercyhurst North East, 88-87. Despite holding a 10-point advantage in the second half, the Cougars gave up a 16-6 run to the Saints to end regulation and were outscored 7-6 in overtime. Ervin Mitchell scored a game-high 34 points and had eight rebounds and four assists. Joshua Doughty added 18 points and eight boards and Naquil Jones finished with 17 points and six rebounds. Rahsaan Williams blocked five shots.

Niagara ended its non-conference schedule with a 130-57 win at Pitt-Titusville on Jan. 8. Seven Thunderwolves posted double-digit scoring totals, led by Sheldon Zablotny-Crosby who finished with 28 points. Eli Jones added 21 points, Francisco Williams finished with 18 points and 10 rebounds and Jordan Green had 16 points. Isaiah Primus-Belgrave was also in double-figures with 13 points and Collin Clark and Luis Hernandez each finished with 11.

What to watch for:

After Tuesday night's game-high 34 points, Ervin Mitchell moved into 8th place on the GCC all-time scoring list with 1,056 career points. Naquil Jones is just 65 points away from becoming the 11th player in school history to reach the 1,000 career-points milestone.

The last time GCC started conference play 0-2 was the 2012-13 season.

The Cougars split two games last year with NCCC with each team winning at home.
