The No. 16 Cougars will put their 10-game winning streak on the line on Tuesday night when they travel to Cayuga Community College to begin the 2015 calendar year and the second semester.
Genesee (10-1) has remained in the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) top-20 National Poll since early December and the Cougars have not lost since the season-opener against Lakeland CC on Nov. 4.
Cayuga (2-9) has lost two in a row and is 1-5 in its last six contests.
Last time out:
GCC beat Planet Athlete Academy at the Niagara County CC tournament on Dec. 20, 128-69. All five starters for Genesee reached double-digits in scoring, led by Ervin Mitchell who finished with a game-high 27 points. Jason Perry Murray and Didier Antoine both recorded a double-double, finishing with 14 points and 13 rebounds and 11 points and 11 rebounds, respectively.
Cayuga lost at Mohawk Valley CC to end its first semester, 96-55. Danny DeFranco led the Spartans with 12 points, the only scorer to reach double figures for CCC. MVCC out-rebounded Cayuga 49-26 and the Spartans shot 35.5 percent from the floor.
What to watch for:
Averaging exactly 100 points per game, the Cougars are the second highest scoring team in all of NJCAA Division II.
GCC's Ervin Mitchell is just 30 points away from reaching 1,000 career points.
Genesee has won each of the last four meetings with Cayuga.
Tip-off is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. at Spartan's Hall Basketball Arena at Cayuga Community College. For updates and results, follow Genesee Athletics on Twitter: @GCCSports.
