At 19-6 (4-3), the Genesee Community College men's basketball team is looking for its 20th win of the season and will have its first chance at it on Tuesday night at Erie Community College.
Coming off of an important Western New York Athletic Conference road win at Mercyhurst North East last Thursday, the Cougars have now won four games in a row and three games in conference.
Erie Community College (14-8, 5-3) currently holds the third spot in the WNYAC standings, one spot ahead of GCC. The Kats have gone 2-3 since their overtime win at Genesee on Jan. 23.
Last time out:
The Cougars defeated Mercyhurst North East on the road on Feb. 6, 97-87. Ervin Mitchell scored a game-high 24 points and dished out four assists. Alastair Cole added 21 points and four rebounds, Naquil Jones and Jason Perry-Murray each scored 14 points and Alex Morris chipped in 13 points four boards and a steal. The Cougars did most of their damage inside, scoring 64 points in the paint and held the Saints to just 3-22 shooting from 3pt-range.
The Kats edged Jamestown Community College on two last second free-thows on Saturday, 73-72. Fabian MacDonald recorded 27 points to lead ECC, Dashawn King added 15 points and Kareem Sulaiman collected nine rebounds and scored eight points. Erie committed 21 turnovers in the game but scored 41 points off of 30 Jamestown turnovers.
What to watch for:
The last time Genesee won 20 or more games during a season was in 2003-04. The Cougars finished the year 23-8.
Naquil Jones scored a career-high 39 points in the first meeting against ECC. Ervin Mitchell finished with 27 points and nine rebounds in the loss.
Genesee is 4-1 since its overtime loss to Erie on Jan. 23 and the Cougars are 1-1 in overtime games this year.
