Making its first team appearance in the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Men's Golf National Championships since 2011, the Genesee Community College men's golf team finished 9th place overall in the four-day tournament at the Chautauqua Golf Club last week.
Christopher Mandia finished +24 (312) and led the Cougars with a T24 individual finish. He shot a 78 on day one and fired his best round on day two with a 75. Mandia ended the tournament with an 82 on day three and a final round of 77.
Alex Folts carded a +40 (328) and finished 56th. He began the tournament with an 86 and an 83 in the first two rounds and shot an 80 in round three. He ended the week with his best round of 79.
Connor Millar tied for 64th individually with a +45 (333). He fired an opening-round 80 followed by an 83, 84 and a final-round score of 86.
John Sallome shot an 86 in round one, an 89 in round two, an 87 in round three and an 83 in round four to finish in 76th place at +57 (345).
Richard Messmer ended the week in 91st place at +82 (89, 89, 98, 94).
Cincinnati State's Taylor Suggs won the individual title, finishing three under par (285). The Surge also won the team title with a total score of 1199, edging out Sandhills Community College (N.C.) by two strokes (1201). Georgia Northwestern Tech (1217), Minnesota State & Tech (1246) and Monroe Community College (1248) rounded out the top five.
