The GCC men's golf team battled back from eight shots down to qualify for the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) National Tournament, finishing runner-up at the Region III Championships at The College Golf Course at Delhi.
After a first round team total of 329, Genesee trailed Onondaga CC (319) and Monroe CC (321) for qualifying position. The Cougars bounced back on day two to shoot a 316 and finished second only behind MCC, beating out OCC by five strokes.
Christopher Mandia led GCC with a two-round total of 155, carding an 80 on day one and a 75 on day two. Connor Millar shot a 79 and an 82, John Sallome tallied an 82 and an 83, Alex Folts bounced back after a 92 on day one to shoot a 76 in the final round and Richard Messmer finished with an 88 and an 89.
Genesee qualifies as a team for the national tournament for the first time since 2011. The four-day championship will run from June 2nd-5th at the Chautauqua Golf Course in Chautauqua, NY.
