Adam Baumeister paced the GCC golf team with a fourth place finish in this year's Region III Golf Championships held at the Robert Trent Jones Golf Course at Cornell University on May 12-13. He shot a two-day total score of 160, five shots off of the tournament medalist, Monroe Community College's Kyle Bromley (155). Baumeister shot a nine-over-par 80 on both days of competition.
Chris Mandia finished 15th, shooting an 84 on day one and an 83 on day two (167). Connor Millar (T-16), Alec Engel (T-17) and Alex Folts (T-17) also finished in the top 20. Millar fired a two-round total of 169 and Engle and Folts ended the tournament shooting 170.
Baumeister and Mandia have both qualified for the NJCAA National Tournament which will be held at the Chautauqua Country Club on June 3-7. Individual entries are earned by the top five golfers not on a qualifying team. Mandia earned his entry into the tournament after winning a playoff. Both golfers also earned All-Region honors with their top-15 finishes.
As a team, the Cougars finished the competition in fourth place with a total score of 665. Monroe Community College (641) won the team title. Onondaga Community College (651) finished in second place and Jefferson Community College (664) took third. MCC and OCC have both qualified as teams for the national tournament.
