Delgado Hits for Cycle; Genesee Sweeps Corning

Henry Delgado led off the bottom of the first on Tuesday afternoon with a triple against visiting Corning CC. Three at bats later, Delgado finished off the cycle, hitting a second inning double, a third inning home run and a fourth inning single, helping the Cougars to a game one win over the Red Barrons, 18-4 in five innings.

Delgado drove in a total of three runs, an RBI single that put GCC in front 3-2 in the second inning and a two run home run that that gave Genesee a 10-3 lead in the third.

The Cougars went deep a total of three times in game one and tallied 20 total hits. Manuel Tejeda hit his first home run of the season in the third inning, a two run home run after Delgado left the park, and Rodolfo Rodriguez led off the bottom of the fourth with a solo shot.

Brandon Stevens logged 3.2 innings of work on the mound and allowed three earned runs on five hits and struck out four. Elias Montero finished off the final inning and a third allowing a run on two hits while striking out two.

Brandon Henshaw doubled in back-to-back plate appearances in the first and second innings and drove in a run. Imanuel Gonzalez went 2-3 with a double and two runs scored, Rodriguez finished 3-3 and Joseph DeFelice, Stevens and Cory Regnet each tallied a pair of hits and scored two runs.

The Cougars batted around in the second and fourth innings, scoring six runs in each frame to earn the mercy rule win.


Casey Guary provided more power in game two, hitting a grand slam in a six run second inning to help GCC to another mercy rule victory, 12-0 in five innings.

Genesee already held a 2-0 lead after Henshaw drove in two in the bottom of the first with a two-run single before the Cougars sent all nine hitters to the plate in the second.

Game two starter Josh Porter went distance in a shutout performance, allowing just one hit and one walk while striking out eight. 

Genesee improves to 19-15 overall and will finish its home-and-home series with Corning CC on Thursday. First pitch of the doubleheader is set for 2 p.m.
