After losing a pair of games to Onondaga CC earlier in the week, the GCC baseball team split on its host date of a home-and-home series with the Lazers on Thursday afternoon, picking up its first regional win of the season.
Connor Barleben got the start in game one and lasted into the fifth inning before being lifted after giving up four runs (three earned) on five hits. He struck out two and walked eight.
OCC tied the game in the top of the third and took control in the fifth with a four-run inning to take a 5-1 lead.
The Cougars cut into the lead in the bottom of the sixth, stringing together three hits and a pair of walks to plate three runs to get to within 7-4. The bats went quietly in the seventh.
Casey Guary went 2 for 2 with a two RBI's in game one, Gonzalez finished 2 for 3 with a run batted in and Barleben added two hits and an RBI.
Quinn Donnelly was the hero in game two, delivering a walk-off single in the bottom of the seventh to lift GCC to its first win over a Region III opponent this spring.
Tyler Liberty held the Lazers to four runs on five hits in a complete game effort in which he struck out eight. He was rewarded with the win.
OCC held a 4-2 lead in the fourth before Genesee tied it after an RBI single from Jardorick Woods and a sacrifice fly from Garcia.
It remained a 4-4 game in the seventh before Guary led off the home half of the inning with a double and after an intentional pass to Garcia, Donnelly lined the first pitch he saw into the left-center field gap to end the game.
Donnelly finished 3 for 4 at the plate, Woods went 3 for 4 with an RBI and Joseph DeFelice picked up two hits and drove in a run.
Genesee (5-18) will host Mercyhurst North East on Friday in a doubleheader beginning at 1 p.m.
