The National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) recently released its list of Region III Division II Baseball All-Region selections for the 2015 season and five members of the GCC baseball team were included. Freshman infielder Brandon Henshaw (Brockport, NY) and sophomore outfielder Jeremie Gonzalez (Florida, PR) were both named to the All-Region First Team and freshman catcher John Warne (Albion, NY), sophomore infielder Christopher Soto (Brooklyn, NY) and freshman outfielder Connor Barleben (Albion, NY) were named to the All-Region Second Team.
Henshaw batted .378 this spring, appearing in all 37 games for the Cougars. He collected 10 extra-base hits which included two home runs and stole eight bases. Henshaw was tied for the team lead in runs scored with 31 and committed just one fielding error in 67 chances.
Gonzalez led GCC in average (.385) and hits (50) and also drove in a team-high 37 runs. He clubbed five home runs and stole 12 bases, playing in all 37 games. Gonzalez made nine appearances on the mound and pitched to a 2-1 record with one save and a 2.95 earned run average, striking out 36 batters in 36.2 innings of work.
Warne was second on the team in RBI's with 28 and tallied four home runs. He hit to a .304 average and stole six bases in 36 games this spring.
Soto was the top base stealer for Genesee, swiping 17 bags and was only caught once. He batted .363 and scored a team-high tying 31 runs, playing in all but one contest. His 41 hits were the third most for the Cougars.
Barleben batted .354 and led the team in home runs with six. He drove in 23 runs and collected 40 base hits. Barleben made nine appearances and five starts on the mound, pitching to a 3-5 record with 38 strikeouts and a 4.76 ERA.
Genesee finished the season 10-27 and fell in the Region III tournament, losing both games to Mercyhurst University North East and Monroe Community College.
