The Genesee Community College baseball team jumped out to a 2-0 lead after two innings in the first game at Monroe Community College on Sunday, but could not hold the lead and ended up falling in the first of two games against the Tribunes.
Monroe came back to score three in the bottom of the third and three more runs on two errors in the fifth. Genesee scored one more in the sixth but that would be as close as they would get, losing 5-3.
In game two, MCC scored three in the first and two in the second to take an early 5-0 lead. The Cougars didn't score until the fourth inning when they scored four runs. Genesee would take the lead in the fifth, scoring twice. Monroe then scored one run in the bottom of the inning to tie the game at six going into the seventh inning. The Cougars didn't score after having a man on third with one out.
"We made a big mistake and missed a sign that really hurt us," said head coach Skip Sherman.
Monroe would score in the bottom of the seventh to win the game 7-6.
"Overall, I think we are improving and I like some of the things we are doing," Sherman said. "We had our chances yesterday to win both games. Right now, we are finding ways to come up short."
The team travels to Mercyhurst NE tomorrow for another regional matchup
