Five members of the Genesee Community College baseball team were recently named to the 2013 Western New York Athletic Conference All-Conference Team for the fall season.
Infielder Rafael Lozada and outfielder Josh Maier were both named to the All-Conference First Team, infielder Christopher Soto and outfielder Earl Blackmon were named to the All-Conference Second Team and pitcher Meruenty Lourens was an All-Conference Honorable Mention.
Lozada led the team with a .444 batting average and played in all eight conference games this fall. He drove in a team-leading seven runs on 12 hits, four of which went for extra-bases including one home run.
Maier played in seven out of the eight conference games for the Cougars this fall and hit .381 in 21 plate appearances, the second-highest batting average on the team. He scored four runs and drove in two.
Soto batted .353 in six conference games and tied for the team lead in stolen bases with three.
Blackmon played in seven conference games and held a .304 batting average. He tallied two extra-base hits, scored three runs and drove in two.
Lourens appeared in three conference games and compiled an earned run average of 1.77. He allowed just four earned runs in 20.1 innings of work and struck out 12 batters.
Genesee finished the fall 3-6 in conference play and lost in the opening round of the WNYAC Fall Tournament to Erie Community College, 7-5 in 12 innings.
