The Genesee Community College's athletes of the week for the period ending Feb. 10 are Rosalyn Sealey (Oakland park, Fla.) from the women's basketball team and Brian Fobbs (Rochester, N.Y) from the men's basketball team.
Rosalyn was the Cougars' leading scorer in both Genesee contests last week having scored 31 points against Mercyhurst North East Feb. 7 and 16 points against Jamestown Community College Feb. 10. For the week, the sophomore shot 53 percent from the floor in going 19-for-36, 58 percent from the free-throw line with seven charity-strip points and 44 percent from outside the arc with a dozen points. In addition, she added 10 rebounds, five assists and five steals collectively in both games. Of the two contests, she was most impressive in the game against Mercyhurst, where Rosalyn attributed for more than half of the entire point total of the team.
In addition to being GCC's Male Athlete of the Week, Brian was also selected as the National Junior College Athletic Association D-II Men's Basketball Player of the Week, as well as NJCAA Region-III Male Athlete of the Week. Brian set a GCC record for points in a game with 46 and moved into sole possession of eighth in scoring in GCC history. Helping the Cougars to a pair of wins, Brian averaged 38 points per game and 15.5 rebounds per game last week, which were both higher than his nation-leading totals in both those categories. His point total average from last week was almost 11 points higher than his nation-leading average. Currently, Fobbs is the top NJCAA Division-II scorer at 27.2 ppg and 13.5 rpg. Last week, the sophomore scored 76 points with 31 boards in recording back-to-back double-double performances with a combined shooting percentage from the floor at 72 percent that included 71 percent from outside the arc and also 88 percent from the free-throw line, with 30 points coming from the latter two categories.
