The Genesee Community College's athletes of the week for the period ending Dec. 17 are TaLia Burgess (Philadelphia, Pa.) from the women's basketball team and Brian Fobbs (Rochetser, NY) from the men's basketball team. It was the first time this season that a pair of athletes repeated as Genesee's top players in back-to-back weeks.
Brian scored 30 points in a single game for the first time this season and did it twice, while also averaging more than 15 rebounds in two contests last week. The Rochester native scored 66 points and added 31 rebounds to go with four assists, three steals and two blocks last week. The pair of double-double performances improved him to double-digits in that department as he recorded his 10th double-double this season. His 36 points against Onondaga last week topped his previous high of 28 this season, while his 16 rebounds against Henry Ford College equaled his season high.
TaLia led Genesee CC in scoring in a pair of tournament games in the Niagara County Community College Classic Tournament. TaLia led all cougar scorers with 33 points with 12 rebounds and three steals that included a team-high 20 points against George Brown and a team-high 13 points against Frederick Community College.
