The Genesee Community College's athletes of the week for the period ending Nov. 5 are Nanako Shiozawa (Chiba, Japan) from the women's swim team and Ferran Martinez (Barcelona, Spain) from the men's swim team. The pair led Genesee in a tri-meet at Jamestown Community College last weekend with 10 combined first- and second-places to help the Cougars accumulate 701 team points that were 250 more than second-place Erie.
Nanako competed in five races for Genesee at Jamestown with a pair of individual wins, a pair of second-places and one team-relay runner-up finish in helping the Cougars to a first-place finish in women's competition against the Kats and Jayhawks. In individual races, Nanako won a pair of races at 100 yards in butterfly and breaststroke competition, and took second in a pair of freestyle races at 50 and 100 yards. In her only relay appearance, Nanako helped the Cougars to second-place in the 200-yard medley.
Ferran competed in five races for Genesee at Jamestown as well, with four individual wins and one team-relay win in helping the Cougars to a first-place finish in the men's competition. In individual races, Ferran won a pair of races at 100 yards in butterfly and backstroke competition, and also a pair of races at 200 yards in freestyle and individual medley (IM). In his only relay appearance, Ferran served as the team's anchor in bringing another first-place in the 400-yard freestyle.
